THE GRINGO FACTOR
While ocean view Real del Mar is gringo golf heaven, seaside San Antonio del Mar is one of the largest gringo neighborhoods in all of Baja Mexico. Several thousand Americans own homes in these two areas, most of which are in the older San Antonio del Mar section. Many of the new homes being built around the newer Real del Mar golf course are owned by gringos looking to own a peice of golf paradise!
YOUR FIRST STOP IN TOWN
Coming off the beautiful offramp at Real Del Mar and heading up the hill leads many visitors to the question "Where do I go now?". A good place to get a lay of the land at Real Del Mar is the outdoor patio off of the Pro Shop. After street parking or taking advantage of the friendly valet service, head through the entrance of the clubhouse and stay left. This area outdoor area offers a great view of the greens, offers a relaxing place to grab a bite to eat, and a leisure cruise through the pro shop is always fun and tempting!
CARLOS FIESTA'S HOT TIP: Let's face it...golf can be a tough game. If you work up an exhausting appetite during your golf game, stop on by the clubhouse restaurant Pedrin's for a well deserved meal. The service is good, and so is the food. The restaurant staff will go out of their way to make your dining experience a memorable one!
 There is one campground north of Real Del Mar (see Tijuana - Camping/R.V.'s) and one just south, mentioned here. Many other campgrounds and RV areas are located in the Rosarito Beach area, and further south.A bit further south along the coast is a great RV Park called BAJA SEASONS, located just north of La Salina. This park offers everything you would expect from an RV park, and it's right on the beach!  The Coronado Islands have particularly good fishing, and are located directly offshore. There are no launching ramps at Real Del Mar, although a small marina is planned in the future, once the residential development nears completion.  A first class hotel has been built as an intricate part of the over all master plan at Real Del Mar. It is the only lodging facility on site, although many other accommodations (from cheap to expensive) can be found just a short drive south in ROSARITO BEACH.  There are currently 3 places to obtain food and drink in Real Del Mar, and none of them ever seem to get overly crowded, except on weekends. Also, there is a good taco stand near the entrance of the San Antonio del Mar housing development, one mile south of the Real Del Mar offramp. And don't forget that TIJUANA and ROSARITO BEACH are each less than 15 minutes away, both offering a host of culinary treasures! A fun and funky dining excursion for lunch and dinner can be found just 20 minutes south of Real del Mar at the oceanfront fishing village of Popotla. This is a piece of Baja coastline that has not yet been taken over by the big-bucks tourist developers even though it is located directly adjacent to coastal development on all sides. Over 30 oceanfront eateries line the shore offering everything from lobster, fish tacos and seafood cocktails. And the prices are as cheap as you are going to find anywhere along the coast. Head south from Reral del Mar and turn right on the dirt road under the white arches on the south side of Fos Studios Baja. Baja travelers looking for an excellent oceanfront restaurant 25 minutes south of Real sel Mar will be impressed with the brand new Villa Ortega Restaurant at the southwest corner of Puerto Nuevo. Carlos Fiesta calls this new hangout the 'best' place on the coast for a meal or drinks between the US border and Ensenada!

 At this point any shopping in Real Del Mar is limited to the well stocked pro shop at the club house. There is also a small store located near the entrance to the San Antonio del Mar development, one mile south of Real Del Mar. Significant shopping opportunities are also available nearby in ROSARITO BEACH and in TIJUANA, and both are only a short ride away.  Taxis can be arranged, for those quick trips to Rosarito (about $15) or Tijuana (also about $15). All other basic transportation is available in Tijuana. Real Del Mar is a master planned residential community, located about ten minutes south of the border, south west of Tijuana. The development is much larger than it appears from driving by on the Baja Highway. The site consists of hundreds of acres of rolling hills, that start at the ocean, and head well inland. Much of the development is centered around the 18 hole golf course, although large equestrian estates are also available in the hills east of the golf course.
