Immediately after crossing the border here the Mexican town of SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO awaits the traveler. This is a busy, clean and well organized town and most of the residents are pretty well off. Hotels in town include the Hotel San Angel at Obregon and Calle 10 (local phone 534-0101) and Motel La Noria (a bit further east at Calle 34). The town offers all of the services you would expect from a Mexican town of several thousand people, including several Pemex stations, markets (including a large Calimax Supermarket), restaurants (including several Chinese!) and a host of liquor stores.
While the license plates on most of the cars crossing the border here are from Mexico, the great states of Arizona and California are also fairly well represented. Local traffic is more common here than at the Calexico border crossing.

This drive parallels the US / Mexican border for 120 miles and for much of the drive the border is just a stones throw from the blacktop. In some areas the two countries are separated by a small metal fence, and in some of the more remote areas there is no fence at all.
